WE'RE NOT DONE YET!

IMC computers are still in heavy use as all students take a Student Survey online. Also ongoing is the IMC Computer Tournament -- GeoNet. Several students have found time to get started and win prizes! Details are posted on the Lakeview Library Webpage. The Tournament ends on May 31st.
In between the IMC is desperately trying to get all IMC materials returned before the list has to go to the office for parents' letters of return or pay. There are still 41 books out, mostly from 7th graders who forgot to bring their book for their final book report today. The deal was that students would return their book as soon as they finished their report. Hopefully most of those last 41 items will come in early next Tuesday.

LOTS OF PROJECTS!

The IMC has been heavily reserved this week and next. Many classes have big projects going on in these last few weeks of school. This week music classes have started projects: 6th grade on composers and music eras, 8th grade on music of various countries around the world. Next week 8th grade science starts a project. So does 8th grade health. That covers the IMC computers and table areas. In the classrooms 7th grade social studies and science will be using the laptops.
Also ongoing is the IMC Computer Tournament -- GeoNet. Several students have found time to get started and win prizes! Details are posted on the Lakeview Library webpage. The Tournament ends on May 31st.

IT'S TOURNAMENT TIME!

The IMC proudly announces the return of its Computer Tournament. In May I pick a computer program or website and make a challenge. If students meet or beat my challenge, they win a prize. The challenge this year is an Internet activity called GeoNet, a geography quiz with multiple choice answers. GeoNet is linked to the Lakeview Library page along with the tournament rules. If a student or a student and a partner can earn 1000 points in any one section of GeoNet, he/she/they win a prize. Of course, the score must be verified by an adult and signed on the record sheet. A record sheet is issued to students the first time they play. There are ten prizes to win, each for a different section of GeoNet. The Tournament began on May 10th  and continues through May 31st. Every student is guarenteed one of each of the ten prizes if they can meet my challenge. Good luck to all!

MAPs, MAPs, AND MORE MAPs

The students are really taking this round of MAP testing seriously! All the teachers have been counseling students to take their time and do their best. AND THE STUDENTS LISTENED! After the initial first 2 days of testing over 300 students needed more time. The IMC was closed a third day so the majority of those students would have the time they needed. By Thursday the list of students who were absent or needed more time was reduced to 120. So testing will continue next week until all students have completed their reading and math tests. I think many of the students did very on these tests because I have seen some very happy faces and heard comments like "I scored 10 points higher" or "I beat my goal by 5 points." Well done students!

Amid all this testing the 6th grade Language Arts classes are researching for their Sports & Hobbies how-to speeches. Since this is their first big research project, I am introducing a different research source each day and giving students a chance to work with it. This past week we worked with books and the I.P.A.C. and World Book Online. Next week we will work with Gale Virtual Reference Library (a reference online database) and EBSCOhost Middle Search Plus (a magazine and newspaper online database).
